비가 갠 뒤 풍경이 유독 마음에 남는 때가 있다. 밤새 비를 맞아 습기를 머금은 건물들의 머리 위로 비는 그쳤으되 아직 제 갈 길을 찾지 못한 채 머물고 있는 먹색 구름들, 그 구름의 틈새를 비집고 비추는 한 줄기 빛에 나는 마음을 놓는다.
빛이란 늘 거기 있었을 진데 구름에 가려진 고작 몇 시간 혹은 며칠의 찰나에 나는 빛이 영영 사라지기라도 한 것처럼 그것을 그리워했다는 사실을 깨닫는다.
건물 앞으로 길게 떨어지는 그림자, 그림자를 넘어 빛 속으로 나올 때 느껴지는 아릿한 눈의 감각, 빛을 받아 물결처럼 반짝이는 커튼월, 함께 반짝이며 부딪혀 섞이는 감정들, 그것들이 나는 그리웠다. 이 조명은 그 그리움의 기록이다.
There are times when the landscape after the rain lingers especially vividly in my mind. Above the buildings, still damp from a night of rainfall, dark, ink-colored clouds remain, as though they have yet to find their way even after the rain has stopped. I find comfort in a single ray of light breaking through a gap in those clouds.
Light must have been there all along, yet I realize that during those few hours or days when it was hidden behind the clouds, I had missed it as though it had disappeared forever.
The long shadows cast in front of buildings, the sharp sensation in my eyes as I step beyond the shadows into the light, the curtain walls shimmering like rippling water in the sunlight, and the emotions that sparkle, collide, and mingle alongside them—these are the things I had longed for. This lighting work is a record of that longing.
