서울미술관과 갤러리 박영을 설계한 여헌 김영조 소장은 빛과 재료, 공간의 비례를 정교하게 다듬어 조각이 공간의 일부로 존재할 수 있는 구조를 완성했다. 자연광의 유입, 벽과 바닥의 질감, 조명 각도와 명암의 리듬까지 모든 요소가 조각의 형태와 깊이를 극대화한다.
따뜻하면서도 절제된 공간 속에서 작품은 고요히 빛나며, 시간의 변화에 따라 다른 표정과 울림을 드러낸다. 이것은 스페이스 톤이 지향하는 ‘빛의 톤(tone)과 조각의 결이 어우러지는 건축적 조화’를 드러낸다.
스페이스 톤의 첫 전시는 한국 현대조각을 대표하는 한진섭 작가의 작품으로 시작했다. 그의 조각은 물성의 무게와 정신의 깊이를 동시에 품으며, 단단함 속의 여백과 고요함 속의 긴장을 통해 조각이 가진 본질적 힘을 보여준다.
이 절제된 감성과 강한 존재감은 스페이스 톤의 공간 구조와 완벽하게 맞물려, 조각이 공간을 비추고 공간이 조각을 감싸는 ‘조형의 공명(共鳴)’을 보여준다.
Kim Young-jo of Yeohyeon Architects, known for designing Seoul Museum and Gallery Parkyoung, meticulously refined light, materials, and spatial proportions to create a structure in which sculpture can exist as part of the space. Every element, from the influx of daylight and the texture of the walls and floors to the angle of illumination and the rhythm of shadow and contrast, maximizes the form and depth of each sculpture.
Within this warm yet restrained space, the works shine quietly, revealing different expressions and atmospheres as time shifts. This reflects Space Tone’s pursuit of “architectural harmony where the tone of light and the grain of sculpture come together.”
Space Tone’s inaugural exhibition opened with works by Jin Sub Han, a leading figure in Korean contemporary sculpture. His sculptures embody both the weight of materiality and the depth of spirit, revealing the essential power of sculpture through the void within solidity and the tension within stillness.
This restrained sensibility and strong presence mesh perfectly with Space Tone’s spatial structure, revealing a “resonance of form” where sculpture illuminates the space and the space, in turn, embraces the sculpture.
