나의 작업은 작은 불꽃의 빛을 따라가는 것에서 시작된다. 작은 빛을 따라 금속 위에 흔적이 쌓여 하나의 형태가 되고, 시간과 행위의 기록이 된다.
《빛의 흔적》은 그렇게 만들어진 표면이 다시 빛을 마주한다. 불꽃이 지나간 자리에 형성된 불규칙한 굴곡들은 빛을 받아 저마다 다른 방향으로 반사한다. 이는 스스로 빛을 내지 않지만 태양의 빛을 받아 은은하게 빛나는 달의 모습과 닮아 있다. 강렬했던 불꽃의 순간은 단단한 금속에 머물고, 그 흔적은 부드럽고 간접적인 빛으로 되돌아온다.
내게 빛은 단순히 어둠을 밝히는 수단이 아니라 형태를 만들고 다시 그 형태를 드러내는 존재다. 작은 불꽃에서 시작된 빛은 금속에 흔적을 남기고, 그 흔적은 또 다른 빛을 품는다. 나는 빛을 따라 형태를 만들고, 그 형태가 다시 빛을 되돌려주는 과정을 말하고자 한다.
My work begins by following the light of a small flame. As I follow this light, traces accumulate on the surface of metal, gradually forming a shape and becoming a record of time and action.
In Traces of Light, the surface created through this process encounters light once again. The irregular contours formed where the flame has passed catch the light and reflect it in different directions. This resembles the moon, which emits no light of its own yet glows softly by reflecting sunlight. The intense moment of the flame remains embedded in solid metal, and its traces return as a gentle, indirect light.
For me, light is not merely a means of illuminating darkness. It is something that creates form and subsequently reveals that form. The light originating from a small flame leaves traces on metal, and those traces, in turn, hold another light. Through my work, I seek to express the process of creating forms by following light and allowing those forms to reflect light back into the world.
