플래닛-언플래닛 프로젝트는 작가의 조형 언어로 새롭게 창조된 도시를 의미하며, 기존 도시의 대칭점에 놓인 작가의 상상 속 세계이다.
현재 우리가 살아가는 플래닛과 대칭되는 언플래닛의 세계는 작가의 조형 언어로 만들어진 새로운 건축물들로 가득하다. 이러한 작품 제작 과정은 ‘과정(process)으로서의 공예’이자 ‘수행(performativity)으로서의 공예’로 확장된다.
《Incomplete Lighting 2.0》과 《Incomplete Lighting 5.0》은 《Planet-unplanet project》 안에서 수행되는 개별 프로젝트로, ‘부분, 전체 그리고 미완(Incomplete Series)’의 연장선에 있다.
작업은 전체를 구성하는 일부가 될 오브제, 즉 ‘부분’을 만드는 것에서 시작된다. 하나의 오브제는 언플래닛 시티(Unplanet City)를 구성하는 건축물로 표현되며, 이 오브제들을 쌓는 단순한 행위를 통해 하나의 전체로 완성된다.
이렇게 만들어진 전체는 사용자의 의도에 따라 언제든 새로운 형태로 재창조될 수 있다. 사용자는 이러한 과정을 통해 작가와 교감하고 작품의 제작 과정에 참여하게 된다.
The Planet-unplanet project represents a newly imagined city created through the artist's distinctive sculptural language. It is an imaginary world that stands in contrast to the existing city.
In the artist's Unplanet, a world conceived as the counterpart to the planet we inhabit, the landscape is filled with new architectural structures formed through his sculptural vocabulary. The process of making these works extends the notion of craft as process and craft as performativity.
Incomplete Lighting 2.0 and Incomplete Lighting 5.0 are individual projects carried out within the Planet-unplanet project, as part of the ongoing Incomplete Series, which explores the relationship between parts, wholes, and incompleteness.
The process begins with the creation of individual objects, or "parts," intended to become components of a larger whole. Each object represents an architectural structure within Unplanet City. Through the simple act of stacking these objects, the individual parts come together to form a complete composition.
The resulting whole can be continually reconfigured into new forms according to the user's intentions. Through this process, users engage in a dialogue with the artist and become active participants in the making of the work.
