In September 2026, Kukmin Ilbo featured Space Tone’s third exhibition, Kim Jiwon’s solo exhibition SHAPE OF LANGUAGE.

Kim Jiwon’s solo exhibition SHAPE OF LANGUAGE was held at Space Tone in Mapo-gu, Seoul, from September 2 to 7. Presented in conjunction with Frieze Seoul 2026, the exhibition explored how the time and labor involved in melting, joining, and accumulating metal are transformed into a distinct sculptural language.

Subtitled The End of Time Caressing Iron, the exhibition focused less on the finished form than on the process through which form comes into being. Curves, cracks, and welding marks left on the metal surface were presented not as traces to be polished away, but as essential elements of the work.

For Kim, welding is more than a technique for joining metal; it is an act of recording time. By repeatedly connecting small particles of metal, she gradually constructs a single form. The uneven surfaces and irregular marks produced in the process are deliberately left visible, preserving the traces of the artist’s touch and labor.
